Johanna Harlow

It's nice to meet you! I'm a journalist at Punch Magazine, covering the people and places of the SF Peninsula. There's nothing I enjoy more than pulling back the curtain and peeking into the lives of cinematographers and photographers, architects and actors, lyricists and muralists. I love crafting narratives in a way that will pull readers into a reality different from their own and tug them along on a journey. My favorite niche topics are subcultures, filmmaking, day trips, creative minds, and anything with a quirky twist.

When I'm not writing, I'm hosting The Local Creative (an online show where I chat with artists and makers) or screenwriting. Before my current position, I spent six years as a freelance journalist, contributing to Content Magazine, Eater, SASS Magazine, Silicon Valley Business Journal, Bayarea.com, Grace Belle, Yayworld, The Six Fifty, Lookout Santa Cruz, and the Mountain View Voice... Don't forget to click through the other tabs to view more of my work!

Note: Johanna Harlow is my professional name (I use it as my pen name and on-air name). Occasionally, when a publication requests it, I write under my given name which is Johanna Hickle. (My older articles are also published under this name.)
